ROAD SAFETY GRANTS PROGRAMME

Child Seat Donation platform

Under the Capacity Building stream, the FIA has launched a child seats donation in Europe and is providing support to a collaboration between 6 of its Members. This project consists in collecting used child seats in order to distribute them to low income families thanks to a web platform. As of today, the Austrian club OAMTC collected 276 child seats and 250 base stations and shipped them to the BIHAMK club in Bosnia.

Dominican Republic Club ACD organized a conference to improve Road Safety for children

The conference gathered Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Education, Road Safety experts, schools and the private sector to discuss traffic law in Dominican Republic. Thanks to the Signature of the Dominican Alliance for Child Road Safety Decalogue of Child Road Safety in the Dominican Republic all stakeholders are compromised to improve road safety for children

Improving Road Safety around schools in Morocco

In September 2018, a 3-day workshop was organized in Casablanca where the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) and the Amend NGO provided training to the Mobilité Club Maroc and local partners. This focused on assessing, rating, and improving safety on the road network around the schools. This workshop was held alongside their project with the IRF, supported by the FIA Road Safety Grants Programme.

Nigerian Club ATCN is organizing a walk to reach country leaders

University students are walking in Abuja and other satellites towns in order to raise awareness on road safety issues. The aim is to reach country leaders and police forces and make them more implicated in the respect of traffic rules. The walk happened during the 5th UN Global Road Safety Week and was supported by the FIA.

SINGAPORE AAS TACKLES THE USE OF MOBILE PHONE WHILE ON ROADS WITH ITS “STAY FOCUSED!” PROJECT

The "Stay Focused" project addresses the problem of distracted road users. It is aimed at both drivers and pedestrians, with particular emphasis on mobile phone use while on roads.The first step of this campaign was the publication of an article on the dangers of distracted walking in the July/August issue of AAS’ Highway magazine, which is physically distributed to over 60 000 members.

Sri Lanka's AAC advocates against texting

The Club launched an awareness campaign on the risks of texting while driving. Students and police officers carried boards with messages near 25 schools during the 5th UN Global Road Safety Week.

Tanzanian Club AAT promotes the ‘wear a helmet’ golden rule

To tackle injuries among pupils on their way to school by bicycle, the AAT extensively promoted the #3500LIVES campaign and the importance of wearing a helmet. With the support of the FIA Road Safety Grants Programme, the Club set up games in primary schools, organized parades and plays, gathering local authorities and road users in order to raise awareness of the importance of wearing a helmet.

The Autoclub of the Czech Republic (ACCR) highlights importance of good eyesight through their “Slepi Vrazi” (Blind Killers) project

After the completion of their project, The Autoclub of the Czech Republic organised a press conference to share the results of their research and engage with the media on the importance of vision to tackle road casualties. The ACCR’s results were quite alarming which led to the Club advocating a change in the law which will introduce mandatory eye checks for drivers renewing their driving license.
